Synaplex Shabbat
On the last Friday evening of every month, United Hebrew holds Synaplex Shabbat, an evening of educational and entertaining activities, along with a Kabbalat Shabbat service to welcome the incoming Sabbath. Activities begin with a wine and cheese Oneg at 5:30, followed by services at 6:00 and a variety of activities afterward.
Synaplex Shabbat is a nationwide initiative of STAR (Synagogues: Transformation and Renewal) that provides congregants with new reasons to make the synagogue the place to be on Shabbat. United Hebrew is one of more than 200 Synaplex synagogues across the country and the only Reform Synaplex synagogue in St. Louis.
Recent Synaplex Shabbats have included an original performance of a show about musical theatre, created for us by the Muny; a birthday celebration for the world, held near Rosh Hashanah; and a fascinating lecture, by a historian from the Harry S. Truman library, about the involvement of our Rabbi Thurman in President Turman's decision to recognize Israel.
