Current Volunteer Opportunities
In continuing with our social justice themes for the year, this quarter’s theme is Tza’ar Ba’alay Chayim; preventing and alleviating the unnecessary suffering of living creatures.
The idea of being compassionate toward animals runs throughout the Torah and the Midrash. “When you see the donkey of your enemy lying under its burden and would refrain from raising it, you must nevertheless raise it with him” (Exodus 23:5). This verse elicits an understanding that if you saw your neighbors donkey lying on its side, you should offer to help the donkey to get up, without question.
