Mission and Values

Our Mission

To be at United Hebrew is to be completely, joyfully at home. Ours is a congregation that welcomes people at all stages of life. No matter where you are on your own journey, there is a place for you at United Hebrew. We provide innovative and inclusive opportunities to participate in Jewish life through worship, music, education, social events, community service opportunities, and youth and family programs.

We are thankful to have a rich history that weaves us into the fabric of the St. Louis community – and a bright future carried by our congregants, our clergy, and all who pass through our doors.

Our Values

Thanks to a strong legacy, a variety of program offerings, and a congregation-wide commitment to inclusion, United Hebrew meets each congregant at their particular point in life. More than just a place of worship, United Hebrew is an integral part of each member’s family.

We embrace traditions that help us maintain the depths of our roots while seeking innovations that keep our offerings relevant to 21st-century living. We are a deeply truth-seeking congregation, and the welcoming warmth of our community makes United Hebrew a place of comfort in often-uncertain times. Our congregants cherish the fact that United Hebrew has been their home for generations and celebrate the ability to stay involved as their own families grow. We connect with one another in times of great joy, during times of deep sorrow, and at all points in between.

We build and maintain an authentic, collaborative Jewish community from our members’ youngest days through their later years. Established in 1837, United Hebrew represents a steady through-line of Jewish life in the St. Louis region, and we welcome anyone who seeks to be part of our community.
