Making Face Masks

Face Mask Mitzvah Project

Our hospitals are experiencing a shortage of personal protection equipment, specifically face masks. We have recently learned that a few of our local hospitals, specifically Missouri Baptist and St. Lukes, are welcoming fabric masks from our community.

Lower-grade or homemade masks are being used at many hospitals in non-COVID-19 cases to free up medical-grade masks for doctors and nurses treating COVID-19 patients. Homemade masks can also be used in conjunction with other masks to prolong the life of medical-grade masks, and can be washed for reuse. By providing homemade masks to hospitals in need, we can help extend the current supply of medical-grade protective gear where it is needed most until additional resources become available.

Sew Masks. Save Lives. Get Tieks.
The reward for a mitzvah is the mitzvah itself, and . . . sometimes others step up with rewards as incentives.   Tieks is offering a program – Sew Masks. Save Lives. Get Tieks.  Tieks is giving a $50 Tieks Gift Card to anyone who stitches and donates 25 masks, or a $100 Tieks Gift Card for 50 or more masks.  Once you’ve completed your masks, please take a photo of all the masks laid out next to a piece of paper that includes your full name, the date, and the number of masks you made.  We will use this photo to verify your donation.   For more information please visit https://tieks.com/sewtogether

How to Deliver Masks

When your masks are complete, please drop at UH in the school/office entrance vestibule in the marked box or if you do not want to leave your home (we understand) you may email us at temple@unitedhebrew.org and we will arrange for someone to stop by and pick up from your porch.

*If you no longer sew but have extra fabric that you would like to donate to this project, please email temple@unitedhebrew.org to arrange for a pickup or feel free to drop the fabric in a marked bag in the school/office side vestibule at UH.
