Nourish Your Soul with Artist-in-Residence Nefesh Mountain

Join congregations Shaare Emeth, Temple Israel and United Hebrew for a day of learning, music, movement, and of course, food. The theme for the day is “Nourish Your Soul.”  Join us early at 8:30 a.m. for a senior fair with vendors from a variety of different agencies serving seniors in our community.  Enjoy a buffet breakfast before breaking off to attend sessions of your choice.  There are multiple sessions to choose from and pre-register for when you submit your registration. After the morning sessions, lunch will be served followed by the Nefesh Mountain concert.

$18 Full Day Pass (Includes breakfast, all morning sessions, lunch and afternoon concert)

Schedule:
8:30 a.m. Senior Fair opens (see below for vendors)
9:00 a.m. Breakfast: Bagels, cream cheese, egg frittata, latkes, fresh fruit, juice and coffee
10:00 a.m. Session 1 begins (multiple options offered)
11:00 a.m. Session 2 begins (multiple options offered)
12 noon Lunch: Hamburgers, hotdogs, salad, cole slaw, baked beans and dessert
1 p.m. Nefesh Mountain Concert

Session 1          10-10:45 a.m.

  1. Nefesh Mountain, In Their Own Words: Join us for a question and answer session facilitated by Cantor Ron Eichaker as they tell their story of how the band Nefesh Mountain came to be and how they blend the American sounds of Bluegrass and Old-Time music with the rich and ancient Jewish traditions of our ancestors.
  2. Ad Mea V’esrim—Exploring texts on aging and living to 120: Led by Rabbi Brigitte Rosenberg. Session cancelled due to funeral
  3. I Got The Sun in the Morning and the Moon at Night: Join Rabbi Amy Feder as she uses Jewish music, from brachas to Irving Berlin, to fill our days with a sense of blessing
  4. Surprising Historical Facts of the St. Louis Jewish Community: Rabbi Jeffrey Stiffman will talk about what he learned when he wrote his book 150 years of Temple Shaare Emeth. Books will be available for sale at the event.
  5. Positively, Intentionally Healthy: Attend this eye-opening interactive session for practical tips and long-term strategies critical for maintaining your health, mobility and independence. Be inspired to embrace whole health and make positive shifts toward becoming a more intentional and successful caretaker of your own well-being.
  6. Experts You can Turn To: Join moderator Mike Flotken for a panel discussion. You will hear from experts on seniors real estate, aging in place, senior communities, hospice, care management and transportation. Session cancelled

Session 2          11-11:45 a.m.

  1. Experiencing Prayer Through Bluegrass and Old-Time Music with Nefesh Mountain: Doni Zasloff and Eric Lindberg of Nefesh Mountain lead this spiritual and soulful workshop/song session diving into the beautiful relationship between melody, harmony, text, and prayer. Together everyone will sing and discover the magic between Bluegrass music and Jewish heritage.
  2. Surprising Historical Facts of the St. Louis Jewish Community: Rabbi Jeffrey Stiffman will talk about what he learned when he wrote his book 150 years of Temple Shaare Emeth. Books will be available for sale at the event.
  3. Don’t Forget to Breathe:  An Introduction to Mindfulness Meditation: The benefits include reduced stress, lower blood pressure, deeper gratitude and a greater appreciation for life.  Join Rabbi Andrea Goldstein, director of the Jewish Mindfulness Center of St. Louis, for a brief introduction to Jewish mindfulness meditation and an opportunity to engage in this transformative practice.
  4. Chair Exercises: Join Joyce Hochberg for an exciting and fun movement class. She will lead an EASY and safe chair exercise routine to upbeat music. Chair exercises will include arm movements, marching in place and relaxing stretching.
  5. What you need to know, legal and financial matters: Join Ted Gottlieb for a panel discussion. You will hear from experts on Elder Law and Special Needs Trusts, Financial Advisors, Medicare and Reverse Mortgages.
