There has been speculative evidence that Jews settled in India as far back as 70 CE. Though the largest Jewish population of India was quite small at its peak, Jews played an integral part in India’s security, economy, culture, growth and stability for hundreds of years. India has been the only sovereign country that has never seen any “in state” anti-Semitism. Cantor Eichaker will lead a four-week survey course of the history of the Jews of India Saturdays, October 26th through November 16 from 12:30 – 2:00 PM. Along with the course, participants are invited to sample the regional flavors of India with a vegetarian based soup that will help to highlight the study of the Jews in different regions of India. RSVP to Esther Olson or 314-469-0700.
