Please join United Hebrew, Shaare Emeth, Temple Israel and Temple Emanuel for a Senior Lunch program at United Hebrew on Monday, November 12 at 12 noon. We welcome Molly Kodner, an Archivist from the Missouri Historical Society who will give a presentation titled My Dear Molly: The Civil War Letters of Capt. James Love. When the Civil War broke out, James E. Love enlisted as a sergeant in the United States Reserve Corps. He left St. Louis with his fellow Union soldiers on June 15, 1861, and the next day he sent a letter home to his beloved fiancée, Eliza Mary “Molly” Wilson. A prolific writer, Love penned 160 letters to Molly throughout the course of his Civil War service. These letters, which can be found in the archival collections of the Missouri Historical Society, have been published in a book titled My Dear Molly: The Civil War Letters of Captain James Love. Hear excerpts from Love’s letters regarding his Civil War service and become part of the great love story of two ordinary Americans living through extraordinary times.
Lunch prior to the program will include turkey, seasonal soup, garlic mashed potatoes, homemade cranberry relish, UH house salad, pumpkin and apple pie.
The cost to attend is $10 per person. To RSVP, send a check made payable to United Hebrew by Tuesday, November 6 to United Hebrew, Attn: Senior Programs, 13788 Conway Road, St. Louis, MO 63141. You may also pay at the door if you have called in advance or pay by credit card over the phone to Angie Klenke at 314-434-3404. Please let us know if you need a cab when you make your reservation.
